Sheva open to Roma interest

by Tom Adams , 22 June 2009

Andriy Shevchenko admits he could be ready to move to Roma should his time at Chelsea come to its expected end.

The Ukraine striker joined the club for a British record £30 million in the summer of 2006 but his departure looks set to be decidedly more low-key.

After two unproductive years at Stamford Bridge, Shevchenko joined Milan on loan at the start of last season and failed to make a lasting impression at the club where he enjoyed so much success between 1999 and 2006.

Roma have now been linked with the 32-year-old and Shevchenko has hinted that he would move to the Stadio Olimpico, even if his priority at present is to stay at Chelsea.

"On 9th July I'll go to a summer training camp with Chelsea, then we will see what happens," Shevchenko told Corriere dello Sport.

"I've spoken with the coach and we will hold a meeting when training starts. I have another year left with Chelsea and I want to respect and honour that deal.

"Should it not be possible to continue my career at Chelsea, then Roma would be top of my wish list."
