Oxford United face a possible points deduction after being charged by the Football Conference for fielding an unregistered player.
The charge reportedly relates to midfielder Eddie Hutchinson and the matter is due to be heard before a Conference disciplinary panel on Monday.
In a statement on the club website, chairman Kevin Thomas said: “We are refuting the charges and are glad to have the opportunity to talk to the Conference on Monday at the personal hearing.
“The general feeling around the football club is positive at the moment and we are starting to see improvements on and off the pitch.”
Hutchinson has been an Oxford player for three years, but reports claim there was a problem with this season’s registration.
Oxford are currently in 11th place in Blue Square Premier, nine points adrift of the play-offs, while fellow Blue Square Premier side Mansfield were deducted four points in October for a similar offence.
