Portugal have applied pressure on Brazil after Carlos Queiroz offered Manchester United's twin full backs Rafael and Fabio the chance to play under him at international level.
Although the outstanding prospects have represented their homeland with distinction at youth level, Queiroz is hoping to convince them to follow Deco's lead by switching their allegiance.
Both hold Portuguese passports, which facilitated the switch to Old Trafford, and the opportunity to link up with Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani for Portugal has not been discounted out of hand.
Fabio, whose progress has been hampered by injury, is rated as highly as Rafael, who has already enjoyed plenty of first-team action at United.
"He [Queiroz] worked with us and really likes me and Rafael," declared Fabio to Globo Esporte.
"He really wants us to play for Portugal but I don't know. Every kid dreams of playing for Brazil at a World Cup.
"I prefer to wait a bit. There is nothing decided."
Rafael is also keeping his options open despite Queiroz pledging that they need only play a couple of games at Under-23 level before being elevated to the senior squad.
"I still believe in playing for the Brazilian team," the right back commented. "I am young and still have much to prove."
