Potters' Brazilian target is for sale

by Laurent Picard , 19 January 2009

Lyon have put striker Fred up for sale, with the Brazilian linked to a move to Stoke.

OL and Fred’s agent failed to reach an agreement regarding a new contract, with Fred’s deal due to end in June.

The French champions’ president Jean-Michel Aulas understands the attacker has not been playing at his best this season and feels he does not deserve the wages he has been asking for.

The Potters have emerged as possible suitors for the 25-year-old Brazil international, who will be allowed to move on from Gerland, five months before his contract expires, subject to a suitable offer being made.

“When players don't behave to the level required in the squad, and to the level they should given the pay they wish to have, it is up to us to either punish them or say to them that they can go elsewhere. It is what has happened with Fred," Aulas said.

"He absolutely wants to go. I have replied to him... that effectively he could leave.

"Now, he has to find a club who would really like to have him at this stage of the season."
