Reports in the North East have surfaced late on Sunday evening linking Sunderland defender Pascal Chimbonda with a shock return to Tottenham.
The Frenchman – who left Spurs for The Black Cats only last summer – is understood to be ready to travel to London for a medical and to discuss personal terms on Monday, after Ricky Sbragia’s side reportedly agreed a fee with the north London outfit.
The as-yet unconfirmed report moots that the deal will see Sunderland recoup the undisclosed fee they paid Spurs for the former Wigan man, who joined last summer with Teemu Tainio and Steed Malbranque.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has already confirmed he has lodged an official enquiry about Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones, but the latest link with Chimbonda comes as something of a surprise.
