Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is set to decide whether to sign Ghana international Stephen Appiah on a permanent deal.
The player has spent the past month training with the North London club, and will be given the opportunity to prove his fitness in a reserve game against Reading on Wednesday.
Appiah has been without a club since leaving Turkish side Fenerbahce in August.
“We’ve got a reserve game at Reading tomorrow and I am going to go and have a look at him and make a decision on him,” Redknapp said.
“He has been a fantastic player. I followed his career at Juventus and tried to sign him three or four times. I watched him play for Ghana on six or seven occasions.
“So if he can get back to that, he is a top, top player. But he has had an injury and his fitness is below what you would hope from him.
“I’ll give him a decision tomorrow. He has been with us about a month and he needs to know.”
Appiah has made 53 appearances for Ghana, scoring 13 goals for his country.
