Fred’s on-off move to Tottenham is almost certainly off, as the Brazilian striker’s brother and agent has accused Harry Redknapp of being a ‘liar’.
Spurs have held a long-standing interest in the striker and it seemed a deal could be pushed through after Lyon confirmed they were happy to let Fred move on.
Redknapp claimed after Spurs’ win over Stoke on Tuesday that a deal was unlikely to happen as he said Fred had failed to arrive in London for talks.
These comments have been met with consternation by the Brazilian’s entourage, as they claim it was Redknapp who failed to turn up for a meeting in France on Sunday.
“What Redknapp said is a lie, Fred never said he would come to a meeting,” the forward’s agent Rodrigo told The Daily Mirror.
"Redknapp said he would come to see us in France on Sunday but he did not come.
"Then everything changed, they suddenly wanted us to come to London on Monday. But here they would pressure him.
"He wanted to come to Tottenham but they let us down so he will not be joining them. It's as simple as that."
