Arshavin deal '90 percent done'

by Alex Livie , 29 January 2009

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger claims The Gunners are 90 percent of the way to securing a deal for Andrei Arshavin.

The North London giants have been locked in talks with Zenit St Petersburg for much of the January transfer window, but it has been a frustrating time for Gunners fans due to the mixed messages that have been sent out about the Russian star.

Zenit claimed a fee had been agreed on Monday, only for this to be swiftly denied by Arsenal.

Wenger claims his focus had been on Wednesday’s clash with Everton, but following the 1-1 draw he admitted the deal was 90 percent done.

"There is nothing new on Arshavin, I have been concentrating on the game and not taking calls,” he said.

"But the deal is maybe 90 percent completed. However, the final 10 percent of any deal can be the most difficult.

"Maybe in the next two days. In this kind of job it can be difficult at this stage because people can change their minds completely."
