Spurs' Gio a target for Mexicans

by Laurent Picard , 08 January 2009

Mexican side America are trying to lure Giovani dos Santos out of Tottenham.

Mexico international Giovani surprisingly sealed a big-money move to White Hart Lane last summer, after an impressive debut season with Barcelona.

Instead of staying with the Blaugranas, the attacker opted to move to North London, where he has struggled to make an impact.

Nineteen-year-old Giovani only appeared six times for Spurs this season before he damaged his ankle at training.

America’s Argentinian head coach Ramon Diaz is desperate to bolster his attacking options, and he has approached Giovani’s father and agent Zizinho.

Zizinho told Diario de Yucatan: “We are yet to know what’s going to happen with Gio in England.

“We are meant to wait to see what his team are going to decide because he remains under contract.”
