Bresnan backs experienced captain

by Nick Royle , 06 April 2009

Tim Bresnan has told Setanta Sports News that he feels that the new England Twenty20 captain should be a player with experience of captaining the short-format of the game in domestic cricket.

The Yorkshire bowler is in the 30-man panel for the ICC World Twenty20, and feels that the new skipper should have experience in captaining Twenty20 cricket.

Andrew Strauss has asked not be included in the squad, so Rob Key, Dmitri Mascarenhas, Paul Collingwood and Shan Udal are all in contention to take over as skipper.

Bresnan feels that the experience of captaining at county level would be invaluable for the new man.

“It could be any one of five six players who could do it, but there are players who have experience of captaining Twenty20 for their counties,” he told Setanta Sports News.

“It is quite a hectic game, and there are three or four names who could do the job with no problems.
