Hoey dreams of Ryder Cup place

by Gareth Maher , 27 May 2009

Michael Hoey has admitted to setanta.com that making the European team for the Ryder Cup would be a dream come through.

The 30-year-old has been on a high since winning the Estoril Open de Portugal back in April, but he knows that improvements can still be made to his game.

Hoey knows that if he can consistently compete at major events, then he will have a great chance of making the European team for next year's Ryder Cup.

However, he believes there is a lot of work to be done before then in order to prove that he should even be considered for that selection.

"The goal now is to do well in as many tournaments as I can. I don't just want to sit back on one win and switch off," Hoey told setanta.com.

"I need to do well in a few more tournaments and if I'm doing well when the Ryder Cup points start, it would put me in a position of possibly challenging for a spot on the team.

"Timing will be key as my form could be off around the time that Colin [Montgomerie] is picking his team and if I haven't done enough to make it, then I might not be considered for the wild card either.

"I'm not really thinking about that right now though as there is a long way to go to it. Instead, I'd like to prove to myself that I can consistently challenge for tournaments and keep improving my game."
