Calzaghe: Cash the only temptation

by Adam Marshall , 16 June 2009

Joe Calzaghe admits only cash can tempt him back into the ring but he is adamant his fighting days are over.

The Welshman retired unbeaten after a fine super-middleweight career and has no intention of performing a U-turn after hanging up his gloves in February.

Although joking there is a figure that would make him change his mind, £10 million, Calzaghe has reiterated that defeat is inevitable if you return for the wrong reasons.

"The only temptation is the cash," he told Zoo Magazine. "I’m owed a lot, so obviously I could still use some more. But to fight again, just for that, would be a big mistake.

"£10 million! I’d come back for that! But, realistically, that’s a joke. Nobody is going to offer me that in my weight division. Anyway, my hands are still sore and I can’t achieve anything else.

"There will always be fighters coming through – but I can’t fight forever. Eventually I’d get my ass kicked."
