Australia prop Al Baxter wants to see southern hemisphere Test matches reinstated to day games.
Baxter has urged SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby) to consider a return to day games following the freezing conditions that he and his team-mates faced in their win over Italy in Canberra last weekend.
Fixtures in Australia and New Zealand are normally played in the evening so as to appeal to as wide a TV audience as possible, but Baxter feels that day rugby is more conducive to an entertaining product.
"As players we understand the need to have the games at night, because it is easier to draw television crowds, but we'd love to have a couple of Tests in the day because it is great to play during the day," Baxter told Australia’s Daily Telegraph.
"I know when we play in Africa it is great, because a lot of their games are three o'clock in the afternoon. It is excellent playing in the sun and the warmth, and dry conditions.
"The commercial reality is it has to be at night but I would love to play afternoon games because they're the perfect conditions."
