Egan beaten in Denmark

Kenny Egan was left bitterly disappointed on Thursday night as he crashed out of the European Union championships in Odense.

Irish Olympic star, Egan, had beaten Imre Szello three times in the past, but he had no answer to the greater energy and enthusiasm of the Hungarian on the night.

Szello took advantage of Egan's slovenly start to go 3-0 up after the first round, three eye-catching jabs receiving no response, before the Dubliner managed to raise his game in the second.

Egan's straight-hitting style gave him the edge and he went into the final round at 3-3. However, any ideas Egan had of sealing a place in Friday's final evaporated, leaving him with a bronze medal.

In an exciting final three minutes, the lead switched several times between the two fighters and it seemed to be heading for a draw. However, Szello pulled out the decisive blow with only seconds remaining and won the fight 7-6.
