Piquet GP driver Alberto Valerio scored his first GP2 Series victory in Saturday's feature race at Silverstone.
Valerio, starting second, was led off the line by polesitter Romain Grosjean, but stayed with the championship favourite, placing him under severe pressure.
The Barwa Addax driver then lost concentration at Abbey on the eighth lap of the race, and Valerio took his chance to nip through.
Grosjean lost another place two laps later, as Lucas di Grassi took second, a position that the Racing Engineering man would ultimately finish in.
However, di Grassi did later lose the spot to Nico Hulkenberg, but regained the place with three laps remaining when the ART Grand Prix driver began to struggle.
Hulkenberg held off Arden's Sergio Perez for the final podium position, while Vitaly Petrov - Grosjean's team-mate and main rival for the title - finished down in 15th, seriously damaging his championship hopes.
Grosjean's poor race eventually saw him come home fifth.
