Glover wins the US Open

Lucas Glover earned his first major title after winning the US Open at Bethpage Black by two shots from Ricky Barnes, Phil Mickleson and David Duval.

The South Carolinan took advantage of Barnes' early-round implosion to take the title, after showing great composure on the last three holes.

Glover rolled in an 8-footer on the par-4 16th hole, taking a two-shot lead over Duval and three others.

Duval looked to have messed up with an early triple-bogey but consecutive birdies at 14, 15 and 16 gave him hope.

Almost immediately, Glover rolled in his birdie on 16, while Duval bogeyed the par-3 17th.

Despite bogeys on one, five, six, seven, eight, eleven and twelve, Barnes showed great courage to haul himself back into the hunt late on, and with a birdie at 13 and pars up to 18, he found himself two behind on the final hole.

Barnes had a long putt for a birdie to pressure Glover, but missed it, and Glover was able to par the hole to win by two shots.

England's Ross Fisher was always in the fight, and moved to within one of the lead with an eagle at the 13th, but he eventually finished fifth on one under.

Defending champion and world number one Tiger Woods was a shot further back on level par after a 69 on Monday, along with Denmark’s Soren Hansen, who also hit a 69.
