Cork football manager Conor Counihan has come out in support of the ban on winter training for intercounty sides.
While the rule has come in for criticism from some quarters, Counihan sees it as a necessary move after a gruelling season.
Players are banned from training with their county teams for the months of November and December. The rule is lifted on January 1st.
Counihan's Cork stars will be on a team holiday until the third week of that month but he says he has equipped his players well with specially designed fitness programmes over the Christmas period.
"Fellas need a break at this stage so we're happy enough to do that," he said.
"You certainly need to step down a bit, but in this day and age fellas are going to keep themselves in reasonable shape anyway.
"They're big enough to know that you can't come back in January carrying a couple of pounds. The handicapper won't allow it!"
Counihan added that Cork are still getting over their All-Ireland final defeat to Kerry.
"You just move on, it's there, it's a bit like a game. If you make a mistake early, do you spend the rest of the game thinking about that mistake or do you move on?
"You have to move on."
