Newtownshandrum took the Munster club hurling title for the first time since 2005 at Semple Stadium on Sunday but not before they had to withstand a determined late fightback by Waterford champions, Ballygunner.
The Cork outfit led by six points at the break and a Jamie Coughlan goal minutes into the second half pushed their lead out to nine points.
However, they were only to score a further four points as Ballygunner, thanks to goals from Stephen Power and Barry Mullane, fought their way back into the game.
Indeed, with just four minutes to go, the evergreen Paul Flynn fired over his fourth successive free to tie things up at 2-9 apiece.
But it was to be Newtown's day as Ben O'Connor fired over a late free and a fantastic long range effort to the delight of the Rebels in the 2,876-strong crowd.
In the other big hurling match of the day Ballyhale Shamrocks had eight points to spare over a gallant Tullamore side on a 1-16 to 1-8 scoreline.
Over in Connacht, Corofin strolled to their fifth provincial football crown as Mayo champions, Charlestown, never got to grips with the Galway kingpins for whom Kieran Comer starred, eventually bagging half of his sides 2-14 haul.
Corofin will now face St Galls in the All-Ireland semi-final after the Antrim side had nine points to spare over a disappointing Loup side at Pairc Esler in Newry.
