Chivas Guadalajara drew 2-2 at home with River Plate and managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericana thanks to the 2-1 victory two weeks ago in Buenos Aires.
The Mexicans will play now against Brazilians Internacional who defeated 2-1 Boca Juniors in La Bombonera.
But Chivas had to work hard for their progress because River played an excellent match and could have been 3-0 up at the interval. Even in the second half, River had chances to score and, with one more goal, would have been qualified to the next stage of the competition.
Gustavo Cabral (3) and Radamel Falcao (19) provided the early goals to River who had three more very clear chances to score - most of all a header from Falcao that hit a post and seemed to have bounced behind the goal line.
After that, in the second half, River were not as strong as in the first one, Falcao, Washington Abreu, Rodrigo Archubi and Gustavo Bou had clear chances for putting River really ahead but five terrible minutes destroyed all what River were building up in Mexico.
The coach of Chivas, Efrain Flores introduced into the match Marco de la Mora and Alberto Medina and these two players gave the neccesary draw to Chivas with strikes on 58 and 65 minutes.
The other match of the night was played in Buenos Aires and Boca Juniors lost 2-1 against Internacional.
After an equal first half in which Inter preserved their advantage and Boca could not find the way to create any danger, the second period was more interesting most of all following the moment in which Inter took the lead thanks to the goal scored by Magrao (47). Alex (81) gave the victory to the team from Porto Alegre while Juan Roman Riquelme (55) had scored the equaliser from the penalty spot.
The man of the match was Andres D'Alessandro who together with Nilmar and Edinho made their team play the ball along the ground to eat up time.
