Argentinos Juniors and Estudiantes de La Plata have qualified to the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericana and, as they have to face each other in the next stage, Argentina is ensured at least one team in the final.
In Buenos Aires, Argentinos Juniors didn't have any problems in defeating Brazilians Palmeiras 2-0 and getting the ticket to the semi-finals.
Andres Scotti (10) and Nicolas Pavlovich (17) scored the two goals for the Argentinian side that had won 1-0 in the first leg played in Sao Paulo.
Argentinos were not comfortable with the first leg advantage and attacked Palmeiras from the first minute in a bid to ease any nerves.
But Nestor Gorosito's side were well capable of beating a team that arrived to Buenos Aires with only 14 players and the assistant coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo as they have their minds in their performance in the Brazilian domestic league.
Now Argentinos will receive Estudiantes de La Plata next week while the second leg will be in La Plata.
The other Brazilian team that has been knocked out by Argentinians is Botafogo as they only managed to a 2-2 draw in Rio de Janeiro and couldn't overturn the 2-0 defeat in Buenos Aires.
Estudiantes was winning 2-0 in the first half thanks to the goals scored by Marcos Angeleri (3) and Juan Manuel Salgueiro (34).
In pouring rain over Rio de Janeiro, Botafogo reacted in the second half and managed to get the 2-2 equaliser thanks to the goals scored by Lucio Flavio (58) from the penalty spot and Andre Luis (65).
On Thursday, the other Argentinian teams, Boca Juniors and River Plate have the difficult task to overturn their defeats of the first legs. River visit Mexicans Chivas Guadalajara (1-2), match that will be screened live by Setanta while Boca receive in Buenos Aires Brazilians Internacional de Porto Alegre (0-2).
