Can someone tell me why Arsene Wenger kept his head down and looked as if he was about to cry for 79 minutes on Tuesday? I assume that it was game over after 11 minutes, but when you are the manager of such a big football club, you have to, at least, show dignity and show to your players that you believe.
Realistically, Manchester United killed the game off in the space of 11 minutes but, even so, I think Wenger should have stood on his feet and urged his players to try hard. Some gestures and signs of irritation would have been more welcome than what was, to my mind, a loser's attitude.
It was also a question of respect to The Gunners fans who paid so much money and who believed so much in their team. Okay, two huge individual mistakes cost the home side two goals but, at the end of the day, you have to show what you are made of and try to bounce back.
The Emirates Stadium supporters have a bitter taste in the mouth today, but I am sure that salvaging a draw would have left them less disgusted. Leaving aside the subject of the Londoners’ inferiority on the night, the man in the suit should not have given up that quickly.
Wenger is all about youth policy and, as a result, he should have made the most of the remaining minutes of the game to prepare his side for the future, instead of waiting for a slow death.
And the man, the manager, the chief, the boss - he is the one who must show you the way. As such, I do not think that Wenger’s behaviour was appropriate. He looked so down after the second goal, about to cry, that his lack of belief was contagious.
I will not blame him for not believing because being realistic is a quality. But what I disliked was to see him sat on his bench - which is in fact a comfortable chair - without speaking to his team, shouting at them, giving instructions and urging them to fight on.
Seeing Wenger staring at his feet for 79 long minutes was a real torture for the Arsenal fans.
Finally, quick word on Emmanuel Adebayor, who was far from impressive in the two legs with United, and who has only scored 10 league goals this season.
Please Manu, stop speculating about your future, speaking about Milan, Beyonce or Milli Vanilli. Talk is cheap. First things first, prove that you are not a one-season player.
