Newcastle United were let down in their 1-0 defeat to Fulham by too many weak characters.
If you look at Jonas Gutierrez, I thought that he was appalling today. We talked previously about how poor the Newcastle defence is and they have a goalkeeper (Steve Harper) that, I don't believe, under pressure makes big saves.
The quality wasn't there. The honesty and the endeavour was there. You need moral courage as well, it is not just about winning headers. It is about getting into the position and saying 'Give me the ball and I'll come up with the big moment'. Newcastle don't have those type of players.
In saying that, I can't believe that Howard Webb can stand over making that decision (ruling out Mark Viduka's goal) when there is so much pulling and pushing at every single corner.
If you look at it, Kevin Nolan pushes the goalkeeper (Mark Schwarzer) and the keeper pushes him. It is a fantastic delivery, a move that is off the training ground, but it came to nothing.
But there is no conviction in the Newcastle side. Even in the way they claimed or how they tried to get the referee to change his mind. If you think how strong the two managers, Alan Shearer and Iain Dowie, are, it is disappointing that his team don't have those characters.
