Cafu is Garforth's latest star signing

by Simon Clifford , 17 December 2008

Why is Cafu coming to Garforth Town? I know people in Brazil and football is a small world.

I know many players and am now friends with quite a few of them.

I've had two promotions in the two seasons I've managed here and this is the third season I've taken the team on myself. So we had Socrates one year and Careca in the other season I managed.

And I wanted somebody who would play for us and bring attention to the club, somebody who could add a little bit on the field as well.

We haven't signed him on a contract or anything like that as was reported at the weekend.

It will just be him coming out in April to play a couple of games for us. He's still only 38 and he was at Milan last year so it's fantastic.

He's the most-capped player in Brazilian history and I just thought it'd inspire I think, as much as anything, children in our soccer schools also as much as turning out for Garforth and seeing the people who will get  to meet him as he travels around the UK.
