In the Drog house - again!

by Craig Burley , 08 May 2009

Didier Drogba's the same guy who couldn’t keep himself in check in the Champions League final last season. Chelsea lost on penalties, but some would say that with 11 on the field it might have been a different story.

There are one or two players like that, but how many opportunities does one guy need?

I can understand the frustration, but, as soon as you start haranguing referees, you’re in trouble because you’re sending out a message that it’s alright. I think it will be clamped down upon by Uefa.

Okay, you can apologise. When you look back, you think, that’s a nightmare, I shouldn’t have done that, but it's unacceptable what happened at Chelsea.

They can feel hard done by because at least one of the penalty decisions should have been given, but it didn’t go their way.

The emotions took over in a way which is understandable but to start talking about conspiracy theories...

The referee’s officiated some big games, so it wasn’t Uefa’s fault that the refereeing wasn’t up to standard. It’s just that he had a bad night.

We’ve got arguably the most feted league in Europe in The Premier League but every weekend you sit through and see incidents where professionals have made blunders.

I think Uefa will probably fine Drogba because if they don’t take action they’ll set a precedent for themselves.Whether they will think about banning him for some games in next year’s competition, I don’t know.

Ballack was very near to the mark in what he was trying to do and the referee would have been justified in sending him off.

There will be repercussions. The referee’s had a bad night and Chelsea have over-reacted. Uefa will take action.
