Friday brings the news that our skipper, Kevin Nolan, has left the club to join Newcastle - so I want to take this chance to wish the big man well.
Like a lot of the lads, I’ll be sad to see Kevin go, I haven’t spoken to him about it but I think when a fee is agreed between two clubs sometimes your mind is made up for you.
I obviously had a similar situation myself at Portsmouth when joining Bolton, sometimes the time just comes for you to leave. The move has certainly given me a new lease of life, who knows what the future holds for Kevin?
I don’t think change does you any harm sometimes. From my own experience, a change of scenery can reinvigorate you and bring out the best in your football in a new environment.
But of course it’s disappointing to see a guy like Kevin leave. We just have to make sure we kick on without him, and focus on playing matters. Kev was a big character both on and off the pitch, but we’ll just have to fill that hole.
I would imagine we’ll make some moves in the transfer window in the next couple of days - although apparently Kaka’s not coming - we’ll see what happens.
It’s a loss for the club but he had given 10 years to Bolton, we wish him well - other than when he comes to The Reebok of course!
TOTTENHAM’S A MUST-WIN
Our bigger concern is Tottenham on Saturday - a game that we can win, that we should win, and it’s one we have to win to be honest. It’s a vitally important game and we must get a good result. We’re at home, we should be confident and we should get a result.
There was a lot of negative press after we dropped a two-goal lead at Blackburn in the week so we need to put that right by getting three points on Saturday.
We play in the best league in the world, there’s always going to be pressure when you’re playing for what we play for – our Premier League status. That pressure doesn’t change from week to week.
And I’ll tell you this...I love the pressure. The more pressure there is on a game, the more I enjoy it. It’s what makes me tick. Maybe that makes me an odd individual or maybe that’s normal, but there’s a good feeling in our squad, and I genuinely believe we should be getting a positive result against Spurs. And a positive result is three points.
