Tevez needs to keep his mouth shut

by Tim Sherwood , 15 May 2009

Carlos Tevez is an excellent footballer, who is having a huge impact on Manchester United's run-in, but the Argentine really needs to keep his mouth shut.

He is playing for the best team in the world and to go anywhere from Manchester United is to take a downward step in his career.

Make no mistake on that one.

United clearly want him, but they want to arrange the fee to suit their means. That means playing a bit of hardball. It happens all the time.

If Tevez stays quiet, and his agent stays quiet, something will get sorted out.

I don’t think he wants to leave Manchester United, despite what comes out in the papers. He would much rather stay.

What maybe Tevez and his agent don't appreciate is that it will be extremely interesting if the player does decide to leave. Plenty of clubs will find it easy to say to his agent “we’ll have him”, but not if it costs them £30 million.

Sir Alex Ferguson will no doubt put that on the backburner for now though as he looks to close out the title, something I think they'll manage against Arsenal this weekend.

We saw Arsenal at Old Trafford in the Champions League against Manchester United and they got absolutely pulverised.

Yes this time they’ve got Andriy Arshavin, but I don’t think one man can make all that difference.

I saw Arshavin at Liverpool and, as crazy as it sounds, he may have scored four brilliant goals but he only got five touches.

He is a spectacular talent and he is capable of winning a game by himself, but if you ask me if Arshavin alone is capable of turning that Champions League performance into a win – it just won’t happen.
