1: John Arne Riise - Liverpool v Luton Town
This Norway international handed struggling League One side Luton Town an FA Cup replay after he put the ball in his own net at Kenilworth Road. The left-back tried to clear a cross into the Liverpool box by hooking it over his own head, but the ball struck his arm and bounced back towards his own goal and trickled over the line. It may have been a freak goal to concede, but one that has given Luton a huge boost.
2: Michael Duberry - Reading v Newcastle United
With Ibrahmia Sonko out injured, Duberry was asked to fill in at centre-back for this fixture in late October. However, the former Chelsea player did not help his cause for regular first-team football when he bundled the ball into his own goal on 76 minutes to allow the visitors back into the game. Luckily for him, striker Shane Long was on hand to get a late winner.
3: Stewart Downing - Middlesbrough v Birmingham City
The England winger got onto the scoresheet for the wrong reason when Birmingham stole the three points from Boro at the Riverside Stadium on Boxing Day. It was the worst start that the hosts could have thought of as Downing sliced a Gary McSheffrey free-kick into his own net on 22 minutes. As he trotted back up the pitch for the restart, he hung his head in disappointment with his face was as red as his jersey.
4: Martin Laursen - Aston Villa v Liverpool
It has been noted that when this Danish defender plays for Villa they tend to play better and secure positive results. However, this was not the case when he featured against Liverpool in the very first game of the new season. He struck the ball into his own net as The Reds piled on the pressure and that mistake helped Rafa Benitez's men go away with a 2-1 victory.
5: Paul McShane - Sunderland v Wigan Athletic
Perhaps the Irish centre-back isn't fully to blame for this own goal in the FA Cup tie against Wigan. He was trying to clear up the mess made by fellow defender Jonny Evans when he somehow managed to thump the ball past his own keeper Craig Gordon and hand Birmingham a 2-0 lead in a match that saw The Black Cats get dumped out of the cup.
6: Sol Campbell - Portsmouth v Reading
Nicky Shorey was originally credited with this goal in the match between the Premier League sides on September 29th, but it has now been registered as a Campbell own goal. The burly defender was trying to block a shot by Shorey when the ball struck his mighty frame and flew past David James and into the net. It was a tough goal to concede for Campbell as he had been so superb throughout that game.
7: Keith Gillespie - Northern Ireland v Iceland
So hurtful was this goal that it caused an argument between two players on the same team. Gillespie was at fault for the goal going into his own net during a Euro 2008 Qualifier against Iceland, which handed a win to the opposition in the last minute of play as the teams had been drawing 1-1 up to that point. After the match, Gillespie was involved in an argument with team-mate George McCartney about the goal.
8: Lee Camp - QPR v Chelsea
It is a cruel blow to be the player responsible for sending your team out of the FA Cup, and Camp will know how that feels after committing a blunder against Chelsea in the third round. The former Derby County keeper failed to keep a shot out as The Blues surged forward at Stamford Bridge and showed no mercy to Rangers in this cup tie.
9: Sami Hyypia - Liverpool v Everton
Hyypia did not help his side claim the upper hand in this Merseyside battle with their fierce rivals when he put the ball into his own net. The Finnish defender scored in the wrong goal on 38 minutes to give Everton the lead going in at half-time. However, Dirk Kuyt saved his blushes with two second-half penalties to swing the game back in favour of The Reds.
10: Ricardo Rocha - Tottenham Hotspur v Fulham
Alexey Smertin had been given the credit for this goal when the sides met on September 1st, but it has now been recognised as an own goal by Rocha. The Portuguese defender tried to rush out and block a shot by Smertin, but he was too late to prevent it from going past keeper Paul Robinson and even made it swerve past his own keeper with his attempted charge down.
11: Ivar Ingimarsson - Reading v Portsmouth
In a match that the goals just kept flying in, it really is no surprise that there was an own goal or two in the mix. Ingimarsson was given this goal after the dubious goal committee had taken it away from Pompey midfielder Sean Davis. The Iceland international tried to close down the space that Davis was running into, but instead got in the way and deflected the ball into his own net.
