Darren Bent has revealed he is hoping he can finish the season on a high to force his way into England's World Cup plans.
The striker has been an overwhelming success in his first season at the Stadium of Light scoring 16 goals in all competitions following his switch from Tottenham last summer.
Bent has scored the same number of Premier League goals as Tottenham's Jermain Defoe, one of his main rivals, and Bent is hoping he can stay in England boss Fabio Capello's thoughts between now and May.
He told the Sunderland Echo: "In terms of England, I don't think I have done myself any harm by continuing to score. I know me and Jermain have the same number of goals - but he got five in one game and three in another.
"
I just try to be consistent and score goals in as many games as possible.
But I don't go out thinking of England.
I want to score to help Sunderland.
"With the bad run we are on, every goal means more to me."
