Owen claims England talk 'difficult'

by Admin , 02 March 2010 football news

Manchester United's Michael Owen has admitted he finds it hard to talk about his chances of traveling with England to the World Cup.

The striker has been left out of the England squad to face Egypt on Wednesday and last week Owen conceded it was unlikely he would be heading to South Africa.

However, the former Real Madrid and Liverpool forward started for United in the Carling Cup final against Aston Villa on Sunday after boss Sir Alex Ferguson opted to rest Wayne Rooney.

Owen scored United's equaliser after James Milner opened the scoring for Villa and some have suggested he still stands a chance of linking up with the national side ahead of the tournament this summer.

Despite finding the net in the first domestic final of the season Owen admits he finds talking about an England recall hard and still has serious doubts he will be travelling to the World Cup.

"I've said many times that it's difficult for me to talk about it," Owen told the Independent. "If I said what I think or how I feel or everything else, I'd only be lying to you."
