Terry hails Three Lions support

by Admin , 05 March 2010 John Terry

John Terry has thanked his England team-mates for the support they have given him and insists the squad is united ahead of the World Cup.

The 29-year-old Chelsea defender was stripped of the captaincy by Three Lions coach Fabio Capello following revelations of an affair with Wayne Bridge's ex-girlfriend.

Bridge subsequently made himself unavailable for England duty and questions were raised about whether the rest of the players in the camp would be fully behind Terry.

However, Terry claims the backing he got from the entire squad ahead of Wednesday's 3-1 win against Egypt was a boost and clear proof they are all united going into the summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.

"Players have spoken publicly but privately I've had a lot of support from the lads as well which has been really nice," said Terry.

"That fight and drive we have for each other will never go away. The spirit among the lads is fantastic and we showed that by coming from a goal behind against a really good side. We were delighted with the result."
