Trott ton lifts England hopes

Jonathan Trott looks to have secured his place in the England side for the first Test with a century against Bangladesh A.

The 28-year-old has been short of runs for a while, with several failures in South Africa and a lack of runs in Bangladesh leading to him being dropped from the one-day side.

However the South African-born right-hander looked somewhere near his best as he complied a fluent unbeaten 101, before retiring 'out' to give his team-mates some valuable time at the crease.

Responding to the hosts' 202 all out, England posted 281-7 declared, with Matt Prior hitting an unbeaten 73 and Ian Bell chipping in with 47.

Raqibul Hasan hit four fours and two sixes as the Bangladesh second-string reached 131-3 in their second innings - a lead of 52 with seven wickets remaining and one day left to play.

James Tredwell followed up his first-innings six-wicket haul with 2-50 from 18 overs second time around and may just be bowling himself into a place in the first Test, which begins on Friday in Chittagong.

But the day belonged to Trott, who might be given the chance to open the innings with stand-in skipper Alistair Cook, as regular captain Andrew Strauss is resting back in England.
