Cook getting his head down

Alastair Cook has revealed that he is no longer having sleepless nights over the England captaincy and is proud to lead his country.

The 25-year-old has stepped into the role temporarily vacated by Andrew Strauss, who controversially decided to miss the tour of Bangladesh in order to rest for upcoming challenges.

The Essex man admitted earlier in the current trip that he was having trouble sleeping as he pondered various bowling changes and fielding positions ahead of the one-day series.

With a 3-0 ODI whitewash under his belt, Cook now leads England into the first Test with the Tigers on Friday with much more confidence and a great deal of pride as he becomes the latest in a long line of England captains.

"Before the first one-day warm-up I hardly slept at all," he said. "I was thinking 'who will bowl then' and 'who's going to field there' but I've slept well ever since then.

"A bit like the one-dayers, there is the same feeling of nerves but there is also pride that not many people have done what I'm about to do.

"For me it's a huge challenge as captain. I feel ready. I'm genuinely excited and I feel a bit more settled in the role now."
