Michael Carrick believes Dimitar Berbatov could be the man to shoot Manchester United to another Premier League title.
The Bulgarian has failed to hit the heights at Old Trafford following a club record £30.75million move from Tottenham, but his recent form suggests he is finally about to win over his critics.
Berbatov has often been blasted for being too laid back by large sections of the United crowd and speculation was mounting at the turn of the year that Sir Alex Ferguson's patience with the striker was starting to wear thin as well.
However, his efforts in a scrappy 1-0 win over Wolves followed by a standout performance and a goal in the 3-0 success over Fulham, cannot be underestimated.
"Berba was terrific against Fulham," Carrick told the Manchester Evening News.
"He has been excellent for a number of weeks now.
"
At Wolves it was a big performance from him as he was up front on his own.
"And on Sunday he really deserved his goal after all his work and endeavour. He did terrifically for Wayne's second goal and his overall play was very good. He is hitting top form at the right time."
