Iain Dowie has been confirmed as the new manager of Premier League strugglers Hull City.
The former Crystal Palace and Charlton boss has just nine games to save Hull from relegation, after the Tigers parted company with Phil Brown on Monday.
Dowie's first game in charge is away to bottom side Portsmouth on Saturday, and will be assisted at the KC Stadium by Tim Flowers and Steve Wigley.
The former Northern Ireland international was working as a pundit for Sky Sports until Tuesday night, and admitted to the station that he had been asked to submit his CV by the club, but refused to confirm the news that he had been appointed until Hull had made an official announcement.
Dowie says everyone at the KC Stadium has to be "positive" and keep a "cool head" if they are to stay up.
The 45-year-old, who has signed a contract that runs to the end of the season, stated: "I want us to play open, attractive football but out of possession I want us to be difficult.
"It's about cool heads, taking opportunities when they come, and a positive outlook."
Chairman Adam Pearson said on Tuesday: "We feel that we've got a quarter of the season to go with some winnable games within that.
"It's not a fixture list that's packed full of 'top four' games, it's a fixture list with games where we would expect to get some points.
"We feel that we're best served by making the change now. That will bring a fresh face in, some new impetus and some new focus to get those 14 or 15 points that we're going to need."
