Charlton have confirmed they are in talks with Middlesbrough over a move for Nicky Bailey but say a deal has yet to be agreed.
Middlesbrough released a statement claiming the deal was virtually in the bag after they agreed terms with the player and the Addicks.
Boro also said the player was due to undergo a medical next week but Charlton chairman Richard Murray says such talk is a touch premature and a deal has yet to be finalised.
"We are in talks with Middlesbrough but nothing has been agreed as yet," Murray told the club's website.
Even so Boro are still hot favourites to land the Addicks skipper and a deal should be pushed through in the coming days.
