Fabregas desperate to take on Dutch

by Setanta Staff , 10 July 2010

Cesc Fabregas is desperate to play in the World Cup final and has pleaded with Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque to pick him for the game against the Netherlands.

Fabregas has only managed to notch up 96 minutes on the pitch so far and has yet to start a match in the tournament, but he is praying he gets the nod to lineout against the Dutch.

The Arsenal midfielder has overcome a leg injury and is prepared to play on with a shoulder problem in order to help his country win the ultimate prize in football for the first time.

"I'm desperate to play," Fabregas told The Sun. "I can't deny it has hurt not to be in the starting line-ups.

"But I only have to look at our incredible players - and especially our midfielders - to realise I'm so honoured to be part of this magnificent Spanish side.

"Of course I believe I can play a part in making history for our country, which has never won a World Cup before. If I'm lucky enough to get a start I will give everything I have."

He went on: "If I'm not in the team, I will know deep down that Spain winning the World Cup is more important than Cesc Fabregas starting the game or not.

"So I will still be 100 per cent behind the boys who do go out there. And I will be thinking about what I will do, what I must do if I come on."
