Henry makes New York move

by setanta.com staff , 14 July 2010

Thierry Henry has signed for MLS side the New York Red Bulls.

The France international, who barely featured as his side crashed out of the World Cup at the group stages, has signed what is according to the club’s website a ‘multi-year’ contract.

The former Juventus, Arsenal and Barcelona star, who will turn 33 next month, has been added to the club’s roster as one of their designated players and will be available for selection after the July 15 international transfer window.

He is expected to make his debut against old foes Tottenham Hotspur on July 22 when Harry Redknapp’s men take part in the Barclays New York Challenge at Red Bull Arena.

“This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life,” Henry said.
“It is an honor to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team’s history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.”

Dietmar Beiersdorfer, Head of Red Bull Global Soccer, added: “It is without question that Thierry Henry is one of the most successful and recognisable soccer players over the past 15 years.

“We are thrilled that Thierry has decided to come to New York to help the Red Bulls compete for championships this year and for years to come. His international pedigree is second to none and he is a proven winner.”

Henry will be presented as a Red Bulls player on Thursday.
