Dubs brush aside Wee challenge

by GAA Staff , 24 July 2010

Eoghan O'Gara and Bryan Cullen were particularly impressive as Dublin brushed aside the challenge of Louth at GAA headquarters on Saturday evening, eventually running out comfortable 2-14 to 0-13 winners.

The inspirational O'Gara netted twice for the Dubs in the first-half as Pat Gilroy's side went in 2-6 to 0-3 up at the break as Louth looked to be struggling in the wake of the heartbreaking Leinster final loss to Meath.

The Templeogue Synge St clubman's first championship goal arrived on 11 minutes and the physical full-forward repeated the trick two minutes before the half-time break much to the delight of the faithful on Hill 16.

It took Louth 17 minutes to register a score and at that stage the side from the capital had registered 1-3 as well as a few very sloppy wides.

Right-half forward Cullen slotted over his first point of the day after 23 minutes and the Skerries clubman added another on the half hour.

The second-half saw a much-improved performance from Peter Fitzpatrick's Wee men and the introduction of Darren Clarke and Declan Byrne as well as the never say die attitude of Wee captain Paddy Keenan aided the Louth cause.

However, fine points from midfielder Ross McConnell, centre-back Ger Brennan, the unusually quiet Bernard Brogan and the aforementioned Cullen saw Dublin through to their ninth All-Ireland SFC quarter-final in ten years in front of a crowd of 47,738.
