Amauri double sinks Hoops

by setanta.com staff , 29 July 2010

Amauri scored twice, as Juventus beat Shamrock Rovers 2-0 in the Europa League preliminary round, first leg in Tallaght.

Michael O'Neill's men therefore have a mountain to climb in the second leg of the Preliminary Third Round tie, to be played at Modena's Stadio Braglia on August 5.

However, the Airtricity League side impressed against the Serie A giants, and could have scored at the start of the second half, but Dan Murray headed wide from Thomas Stewart's cross.

It took just three minutes for the Bianconeri to open the scoring.

Amauri and fellow Brazilian Diego played a one-two on the edge of the box and Amauri clipped the ball over Hoops' goalkeeper Alan Mannus from a tight angle.

Amauri hit the post just before the hour, but netted his second on 74 minutes when he headed in Thiago Motta's chipped cross from the right in off the inside of the far post.

Alessandro Del Piero came on for the final nine minutes at Tallaght Stadium, to a chorus of "You'll never play for Rovers", and saw a rolled snapshot go just wide.
