Stoke City's Ibrahima Sonko has joined Portsmouth on loan for the final year of his contract with the Potters.
Pompey had to gain approval from the Football League before the deal, which was agreed last week, could go ahead due to the transfer embargo placed on the south coast club.
The Football League agreed to allow Sonko, who spent last season on loan at Hull, to join Portsmouth and the 29-year-old has now joined the Championship side for the 2010/2011 season.
Sonko had just one year remaining on his deal with the Potters so his move to Fratton Park effectively ends his stay at Stoke City.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Ibrahima to play regular first team football at Championship level which is what he needs in his career right now," Stoke boss Tony Pulis told the club's official website.
"We have good defensive options in our squad, so first team opportunities have been limited for him here. Therefore, we wish him well with his move to Portsmouth."
