Lennon fuels McGeady exit rumours

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has added fuel to the rumours of an imminent move away for star winger Aidan McGeady, after admitting that the club has received offers for the Republic of Ireland trickster.

The former Northern Ireland international also hinted that once a big enough offer is received, the club will not stand in the player's way.

It is common knowledge that Russian giants Spartak Moscow had tabled an STG8.5m bid, but in confirming that there is a "big offer on the table", Lennon also revealed that there are other clubs interested.

"There's strong interest, not just from Moscow. We believe there's interest from other clubs as well," he said.

McGeady's future at Celtic was placed in doubt when he failed to feature in the Champions League qualifier in midweek, in what has been interpreted as a precaution against getting him cup-tied before he moves to a new club.

"I haven't really sat down and said: 'are you away?', or 'do you want to go?' or anything like that because I don't want to put unnecessary pressure on him," Lennon added.

"He's a big player for us and he has been for a number of seasons.

"He was very important to me in the run-in to last season. He's a talented player, a very talented player. But every player has his price and sometimes we can't stand in the way of that.

"If the offer's right for the club and right for the player then it's hard to stop these things going through."

Aston Villa and Birmingham City are two Premier League clubs who have been linked with McGeady in the past.
