Glasgow fightback to beat Leinster

A brilliant second half display helped Glasgow Warriors come from ten points down to record a 22-19 win over Leinster at Firhill on Friday night.

Leinster were well in control of the match at the interval following tries from Dominic Ryan and Isaac Boss but the Scottish side fought back through a DTH van der Merwe converted try.

They took the lead when Duncan Weir kicked a drop goal five minutes from time only for Isa Nacewa's penalty to bring the sides level. However, an injury-time penalty from Weir sealed the victory for the hosts.

Last year's beaten finalist got off to a bright start as Fergus McFadden kicked a penalty in the third minute, but Ruaridh Jackson equalised for the home side two minutes later.

As both sides settled into the match it was another 11 minutes before the next score came, McFadden landing another penalty to put Leinster 3-6 ahead. Although Jackson was on hand to ensure the teams were level after 25 minutes, Leinster soon took control of the half.

Ryan went over for the game's opening try in the 26th minute and despite McFadden missing the conversion, the visitors were 6-16 clear thanks to Boss' 35th minute try. Once again McFadden missed the conversion and it was to prove costly for the Irish province.

A different Warriors team emerged after the interval and after some intense pressure they were rewarded with a 55th minute penalty, which Jackson slotted over before van der Merwe crashed over to bring the home side within two points.

Weir, on for Jackson, successfully converted to draw his side level with just over ten minutes left on the clock and buoyed on by the partisan crowd the Warriors went in search of the winning score.

A 75th minute drop goal from Weir sent Warriors into the lead for the first time, but their celebrations were halted three minutes from time when Nacewa sent his penalty effort over the bar. However, Glasgow were not to be denied a memorable win as Weir calmly converted a last minute penalty.
