Kilkenny are the 2010 All-Ireland Minor Hurling champions after defeating Clare by 2-10 to 0-14 in Sunday's final at Croke Park.
The Banner boys had a four-point lead at the break, but the young Cats lifted it on the restart and two goals from Michael Brennan proved decisive as Kilkenny regained the crown they lost to Galway in last year's decider.
After Clare's Podge Collins had pointed the first score of the day, a long-ranger from Owen McGrath saw the Cats 0-2 to 0-1 ahead, but then a blast of Banner points began to sail over.
Banner corner forwards David O'Halloran and Daire Keane were dropping back and shooting from range, both on target with lovely efforts as some great hassling of the Kilkenny forwards led to several breaks and scores.
In fact, with O'Halloran flying, Clare moved into a 0-8 to 0-2 lead as Richie Mulrooney's boys went 22 minutes without a score, though they really should have had one when awarded a soft penalty. John Power went down from an innocuous looking challenge that was definitely outside the area, however a penalty was given.
Power took it himself but was denied by Ronan Taaffe, captain Paul Flanagan then looping the ball away as it still threatened to go over the line. Kilkenny argued, possibly with a case, that it had gone over as the full back cleared but no green flag was raised and Clare went on to lead by six.
McGrath finally scored the Cats' first point for a long, long time, though Clare's lead was quickly back at six thanks to Enda Boyce. Kilkenny did get the final two points of the half though, Brennan's effort seeing them trailing by four points - 0-9 to 0-5 - as the whistle went.
The first score of the second half came from Clare's Tony Kelly, but the Cats did what they do so well immediately after as they found the back of Taeffe's net with a route one move. The sliotar came forward and Ger Aylward caught it and held off Flanagan before releasing Brennan in space and the corner forward fired beyond Taaffe and into his left hand corner.
A Niall Arthur free restored a lead of three for the Munster youngsters, but all of a sudden it was level as the pre-match favourites found the net again.
Brennan collected on the right and beat two Banner defenders before driving a kick goalward that substitute Paul Buggy ran onto to touch over. He was in the square as he did so but the ball was going in from Brennan anyway to be fair.
Kevin Kelly and Alyward then hit two points apiece, one each sumptuous, as Kilkenny raced four clear, the turning of the table looking complete, though David O'Halloran did split the posts to stem the flow. And back came Clare to get within a point and put real pressure on the boys in black and amber.
But it was Kilkenny who hit the bar late on and it was Brennan who had the final say with a fine turn and score from well out to relieve the pressure and seal the win for the Cats.
