Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier is expected to be unveiled as the new Aston Villa manager within the next 48 hours.
The Frenchman had been linked with the role of Sporting Director at Villa Park, with speculation suggesting current caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald would remain in charge of first team affairs.
However, Houllier, who is currently the technical director for the French Football Federation, has now been offered the job as manager, according to the latest reports.
The 63-year-old's last managerial role was as boss of Lyon, a post he left in 2007.
Houllier claimed he needed a break from management of at least two years when he departed the Stade de Gerland, but it would seem as if he is set for a return to the frontline of football with Villa.
Villa are expected to announce his appointment with the next 48 hours.
