Gatland ponders Wales deal

Warren Gatland will decide whether to remain as Wales coach within the next month.

The 46-year-old's contract with the Welsh Rugby Union runs out after next year's World Cup in New Zealand.

The former Ireland coach, who has been in charge of the Welsh since 2007, has still to decide whether to agree a new deal.

Gatland told Wales Online: "I've been talking to (Welsh Rugby Union group chief executive) Roger Lewis and it's a case now of weighing up whether to stay or to make a personal, family decision to go back to New Zealand.

"As well as talking to Wales, I've had an approach from New Zealand about a position back there, so I'm weighing up now whether to stay on or go back.

"I think Wales is in a good state at the moment in terms of the participation agreement that is in place and the stability. I'm coming up to three years in the job and I'm looking at things like the youngsters coming through and the regions.

"I'm looking at the squad too and realising that between today and 2015 we may only lose four players - Lee Byrne, Martyn Williams, Stephen Jones and Shane Williams. In terms of experience and the number of caps won, Wales are in a good position for the next four or five years."
