Campbell ready for action

by Admin , 08 September 2010

Veteran defender Sol Campbell believes he is now fully match fit and is hoping to make his Newcastle United debut soon.

The former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defender made another appearance for the reserve-team as he played 60 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool and Campbell feels he is now ready to make the step-up to the Newcastle first-team.

Newcastle welcome Blackpool to St Jame's Park on Saturday and Campbell feels he stands a good chance of making his debut against Ian Holloway's side.

"I'm going to keep on pushing," Campbell told the Chronicle.

"I'm in with a shout I just have to keep training hard now.

"Once you have the minutes under your belt you just have to wait for the call from the gaffer.

"I needed to get the minutes, and that's what it is all about really. I'm getting those minutes and I'm getting stronger and stronger."

However, Newcastle boss Chris Hughton may wish to stick with his current central defensive partnership of Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson as both have been in good form following the club's return to the Premier League.
