Preview: Scunthopre v Man United (Weds)

by Setanta staff , 21 September 2010

Surprise summer signing Bebe is expected to be part of Manchester United's squad for the first time for the Carling Cup trip to Scunthorpe United.

The 20-year-old Portuguese did not play for the reserves against Bury on Monday, suggesting that Sir Alex Ferguson will likely give him some game time at Glanford Park on Wednesday, though Michael Owen (pictured) and Federico Macheda are expected to lead the line against the Championship side.

Midfielder Anderson is also likely to make a first competitive start since the early part of the year after a long spell on the sidelines, and Rio Ferdinand could feature if he can shake off the virus that saw him miss Sunday's 3-2 win over Liverpool.

Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez should also get a run-out, as should Rafael da Silva, Chris Smalling and Darron Gibson.

Scunthorpe will be playing United in a competitive game for the first ever time, but will be doing so under the caretaker guidance of Ian Baraclough after Nigel Adkins left the club for Southampton.

The stand-in boss has no fresh injury worries, with defender Rob Jones fit after a knee injury but likely to be kept out of the side by Niall Canavan.

A groin knock sees winger Garry Thompson still sidelined and on-loan Brighton defender Jim McNulty is also expected to miss out with an ankle injury.

Man United (from): Kuszczak, Amos, Neville, Rafael, Brown, Ferdinand, Smalling, De Laet, Dudgeon, Anderson, Park, Obertan, Gibson, W Keane, C Evans, Eikrem, Owen, Hernandez, Macheda, Bebe.
