Worthington focus fully on Faroes

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington says Friday’s draw with Italy must quickly be forgotten about, with a game against the Faroe Islands fast approaching.

Worthington’s men drew 0-0 with the 2006 world champions at Windsor Park to remain unbeaten in Group C of Euro 2012 qualifying, and it could have been even better for them. However, the former Norwich City boss says that that game is now gone and the side must now be fully focused for their away enconter with Brian Kerr’s side.

And the fact that the Faroes are managed by the former Republic of Ireland boss is, according to Worthington, reason enough to be fearful.

"I see this game as a bigger one than playing Italy,” he was quoted as saying by the Irish Independent.

“Why? They have a manager who knows the British game and knows our players. So we have got to go and do a job.

"If we can get three points on Tuesday that would be a fantastic start for us in the group (they also won n Slovenia a month ago). It keeps the door wide open for us. What we have to do in that game is go and do a good professional job."

Meanwhile, Worthington backed striker David Healy who continued a two-year drought without an international goal on Friday. The former Manchester United striker has been frozen out of the first-team picture at Sunderland as well, but Worthington says a goal is just around the corner.

He added: "I will carry on supporting him because he is working hard in training and looks a lot brighter and sharper. It is a case of when it happens."
