O'Neill mystified by Rovers mistakes

by Setanta Staff , 11 October 2010

Shamrock Rovers manager Michael O'Neill is at a loss to explain why his players are making poor decisions.

A run of four defeats in five league matches have seen Rovers replaced at the top of the table by Bohemians with two games remaining.

On Saturday the Hoops took the lead against Sporting Fingal but mistakes from Aidan Price allowed the visitors to walk away with all three points at the Tallaght Stadium.

O'Neill was furious at his side giving away another lead but he is mystified as to why his players are making such basic mistakes.

"If I knew that I would be working for NASA, wouldn't I? I don't know," he is quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Star.

"We'll have to look at that and speak to the lads individually. Players make mistakes on the pitch, mistakes right through the games.

"In recent weeks the mistakes we have made have hurt us badly. I have a lot of anger at the moment, anger because I feel for them.

"To give 34 games and put themselves in the position they have, and now to be in the position where we need someone to do us a favour.

"The harsh reality of football is that if you make mistakes, more often than not you will be punished."
