Elsom relishing Lions clash

Australia skipper Rocky Elsom is relishing the prospect of lining up against the British and Irish Lions when they tour Down Under in 2013.

By the time the next tour comes around it will have been 12 years since the Lions paid a visit to Australia and as a result it will be the first time many of the Wallabies will take on the travelling party.

Elsom has set his sights on taking on the Lions, something he describes as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and he expects his side to be very motivated come 2013.

"It's a hell of a time to wait. Some of the younger guys in the squad don't even remember the last time they were around," Elsom said.

"But watching them in Africa you get a sense of what kind of an occasion it is. It's an opportunity that most guys only get once - by the time it gets here we'll have a very excited team."

In addition to looking forward to playing the Lions, Elsom is excited about the atmosphere that will come from the army of fans that are expected to travel to Australia.

"If you look back at the previous Lions tour and then what happened in 2003 - the Lions tour was the single biggest event we had in the country before the World Cup," he said.

"No-one really expected the Lions tour to be such a festival or so high-profile.

"One of the great things about the Lions coming down here is that they bring so many supporters. The difference between the games between the northern and southern hemispheres if you are a spectator is enormous because of the different kinds of atmospheres."
